Mortgage Rates Fall for Third Straight Week

Today, Freddie Mac reported that the national averages for mortgage rates for the week ending April 18 fell for the third week in a row.

Thirty-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 3.41%, with an average 0.7 point, down from 3.43% last week and 3.90% the same time last year. For 15-year fixed-rate mortgages, the average rate was 2.64% with an average of 0.7 point, dropping from 2.65% last week and 3.13% a year ago.

Freddie Mac also reported that the five-year adjustable-rate mortgages averaged 2.60% with an average 0.5 point. That is a decline from last week’s figure of 2.62% and last year’s figure of 2.78%. However, the one-year ARM averaged 2.63% and 0.4 point, up slightly from 2.62% last week but lower than it was a year ago, when the average rate was 2.81%.
