The real estate industry has seen continued growth on Long Island, with an increase in contracted homes and fewer homes listed for sale.

Long Island Business News reported that there were 1,537 home sales during the month of December 2013 on Long Island. This is a 16.4% increase from December 2012, when 1,322 homes were sold.

According to the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island, there were 13,850 homes listed for sale last month, which is an 8.4% decrease year over year. This was at its lowest point in several years, the Long Island Business News reports.
